James Franklin Fleming, 92, of Cambridge, passed away May 14, 2022, at his home.
James was born May 17, 1929, in Cambridge, Ohio, a son of the late James Fleming and Mary Elizabeth Barrett Fleming.
He attended Cambridge City Schools until fifth grade and moved to Dravosburg, Pennsylvania. James graduated from McKeesport Pennsylvania Vocational School in 1947 and was in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, he graduated from California State Teachers College in California, PA, with a B.S. Degree in 1955.
After obtaining his B.S. Degree, he moved back to Cambridge and started his teaching career at Oakland School for three years. James later accepted a teaching position at Centralia School District in Buena Park, CA, for 16 years while obtaining his Elementary Administrational Certificate and Master’s Degree.
In 1974 he married the love of his life, Elizabeth, and moved back to Cambridge where he taught at Lincoln Elementary until retirement in 1994. James received the Martha Jennings Master Teacher award.
James was active with the school district outdoor education program and held the position as treasurer for Cambridge Education Association. Everyone knew James was an avid reader and competitive card and tennis player.
Along with his parents, James in preceded in death by his two brothers, Ronald and Robert Fleming, and his sister, Linda Willis.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Fleming, whom he married on May 12, 1974, and just celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary, his four sons, Jim (Sue) Fleming of Riverside, CA, Bill (Donna) Fleming of Hesperia, CA, Greg Herring, of Goshen, IN, and Kevin (Jennifer) Herring of Surprise, AZ. Also left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Janie (Ken) Hasan of Simi, CA, Robin (Ruben) Martinez of Corona, CA, his twelve grandchildren and his fourteen great grandchildren.
There will be no services at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
