James David Pontius, 78, of Cambridge, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023, at OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center.
He was born September 23, 1945, in Cambridge, son of the late George L. Pontius and Margaret R. (Severance) Pontius.
Mr. Pontius retired in 2010 after twenty-six years with Seminole Tubular as a shipper.
He loved to hunt and fish, especially turkey hunting. He was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos.
Mr. Pontius was a member of the Unity First Presbyterian Church of Cambridge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley J. (Moore) Pontius whom he married November 28, 1964, and who passed February 10, 2023; a son, Mark A. Pontius; seven brothers, Ralph, Bobbie, George H., Jack, Chuck, Dale, and Ronald; three sisters, Katie, Everlane, and Mary Pauline and his little dog, Niki.
He is survived by his children, Timothy (& Carrie) Pontius, Pam (& Roger) Yates, Jerry (& Julie) Pontius, and Terry (& Amy) Pontius all of Cambridge; a sister, Marcella Evans of Cambridge; four grandsons, Derek, Trevor, Travis, and Troy; two granddaughters, Kylie and Emmie; two step grandchildren, Justin and Chelsea; two great-grandsons, Slade Gibson and Ryker Pontius; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 11AM till 1PM at Thorn- Black Funeral Home in Cambridge with the service immediately to follow. Pastor Jeff Bergeson will be officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
