Obituary

Jerry Wayne Stillion, age 77, passed away on August 31, 2023, in Zanesville, Ohio. He was born on August 5, 1946, to the late Harold and Margaret (Simmons) Stillion.

Jerry Wayne was really proud of his family, especially the lawyer, two nurses, police officer and one very good with his hands. He especially enjoyed talking about his younger brother and sister, Debbie LeVan and David Stillion, when they were little. Jerry was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Wayne (JW) Vandermark Jr.

Jerry Wayne was in the U.S. Navy  for three and half years. He was stationed primarily in Vietnam. He obtained naval training in the naval hospital corps school and the field medical service school. He gave malaria training and was assigned field population for venereal disease training. He received an honorable discharge, the national defense service medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with PALM, Vietnamese Service Medal with Bronze Star, the Fleet Service Marine Force Conduit Operations insignia, and the Vietnam campaign metal with a Device and the Combat Action Ribbon.

Jerry Wayne attended Byesville High School, graduating in 1965. He played football and basketball. He attended the Zane State Technical College, graduating with an associate degree in Mental Health Technology in 1969. Then, he graduated in 1982, from Ohio University with an associate degree in nursing. He was an active tutor for anatomy classes. He graduated in May of 2002, with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Jerry Wayne was a member of the Methodist Church. He also belonged to the sportsman club  for shooting. He encouraged gun and the bow and arrow training

His best friends were Larry Walters, Bob Robinson, Bill Loader, and Bruce Howard. He spent many hours with hunting and shooting at live models.

As a young man, he spent many hours looking at the land, for the potential restaurant business location. He wanted possible retirement options.

He is survived by his wife Linda (Bates) Stillion, whom he married on January 17, 1986, and spent their lives in Cambridge, Ohio. He is also survived by Ryan (& Kennedy) Stillion, Randy LePage, Richard LePage, Veronica Stillion, Jennifer Stillion and Eva Jo Byers; six grandchildren, Amber Stillion, Heather R. Vandermark, Alexander Vandermark, Christopher Vandermark, Quinten LePage, and Xyler LePage. Also left to cherish his memory are many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Cambridge School’s libraries and the Guernsey County libraries in Cambridge.

There will be calling hours Saturday September 9, 2023, from 11AM until the time of the service at 1PM at Flat Ridge Church, 70482 Hopewell Road Route 658, Cambridge, Ohio. The burial will follow at Flat Ridge Cemetery.
