Marjorie Holmes, 100 years old, of Cambridge, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022. She was born on February 27, 1922, in Cambridge, Ohio, daughter of the late Paul and Laura (Mehaffey) Brothers. Mrs. Holmes was an active member of the First Christian Church where she has been a member since 1934. She participated in the Christian Women's (Deborah Group) and was a member of the Loyal Daughters Sunday school class. She also participated in the Honeybees Quilting Group for many years. She enjoyed going to the Cambridge City Park band concerts and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She celebrated her 100th birthday party this year at the First Christian Church with over 100 people in attendance. She always looked forward to watching the Ohio State Football games and dressed in OSU apparel. Marjorie graduated from Cambridge (formerly Brown) High School in 1940. She is retired from March Electric and helped organize the March Electric Retiree group events for many years. Marjorie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James Holmes, her parents Paul and Laura Brothers, her brother Ralph Brothers, sister, Lucille Gunselman, and her Granddaughter, Amy (Tillett) Miller. She leaves behind her children, Charlotte (Gary) Farmer of Cambridge and Carolyn (Chuck) Tillett of Guntersville, Alabama, three grandchildren, Laura (Stuart) Rogers of Auburn, Alabama, Aaron Farmer of Huntsville, Alabama and Aarica (Larry Shuman) of Pickerington, Ohio, her great grandchildren, Braeden Farmer of Decatur, Alabama, Sam Miller of Auburn, Alabama, Caroline Rogers, Avery Rogers and Libby Rogers of Auburn, Alabama, Eliana Shuman of Pickerington, Ohio and Mickey Shuman of Pickerington, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. Her faithful dog Abby has been by her side for the past 9 years.
She was also blessed to have her long-time friend Donna Gotschall, serve as her companion and aide for many years. We appreciate her caregivers who gave her compassionate and loving care, Janet Campbell, Yolanda (Lonnie) Conrad and Linda Reyna. She also was blessed to have had outstanding neighbors who have looked after her thru the years.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 3-6 PM at Thorn Black Funeral Home. Services will be Sunday, October 30, 2022, with an additional hour of visitation at 1 PM and the service at 2 PM at First Christian Church in Cambridge with Pastor Mark Slay officiating. Burial will be held at Northwood Cemetery.
