Nellie “Irene” (Carpenter) Neuhart was peacefully called home by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ our heavenly father on July 27, 2023, at 9PM with family by her side. Irene was born in Calais, Ohio on March 15, 1931, to Tony and Hazel Carpenter.
At 22 years of age, she met and married Richard “Dickie” Henry Neuhart of Batesville, Ohio in South Carolina on August 29, 1953, while Richard was stationed in Camp Lejeune with the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. After serving his tour of duty they moved to Batesville where they raised three children and started the family business in 1964.
Dickie and Irene would serve as the original gathering place for the Batesville Community and for family and friends, near and far. If you were looking for the famous Bluto Burger, you were in the right place. If you were looking for a tall tale or a short story you could always find one there. Among Irene’s many gifts of hospitality, was at Christmas time where family and friends from near and far would gather at her home sometimes with standing room only to be served one of the most wonderful meals your eyes could ever imagine. No one ever left hungry.
Irene was a life long member of the Batesville United Methodist Church. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with her every breath. They were her greatest gift. She loved working outside in her many flower beds and always had compliments on her ability to garden and can everything she grew. She passed on to her children many talents and they soon followed in her footsteps, which would be hard to fill. Her love, laughter, and many friendships will truly be missed.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Henry Neuhart, daughter, Denise Neuhart, and her brothers, Vigin, Bryl, and Johnny Carpenter.
She is survived by her sons Craig (& Karen) Neuhart, Tony (& Janice) Neuhart, grandchildren, Jennifer (& Jeremy) Wayble, Steve (& Chelsey) Neuhart, and Daniel Neuhart, great- grandchildren, Samuel and Avery Wayble, Jayden, Nova, Garon, and Sadie Neuhart.
Special thank you to Bob and Stacy Guy, Irene Simeral, Mary Lou Carpenter, John and Debbie Goodhart, Rusty and Angela Hannahs, all of her friends in Batesville and the surrounding communities, The Hometowner Café, Astoria Place of Barnesville and Hospice of Guernsey County, with your love and prayers, our hearts will go on.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2023, from 11AM- 1PM with the service to follow at 1PM at Thorn- Black Funeral Home in Quaker City. Pastor Van Fisher will be officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery.
