Robert Harris Lilienthal

February 3, 1935 — December 1, 2024

Zanesville

Robert Harris Lilienthal, a cherished member of the Cambridge community, an accomplished businessman, and a loving family man, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, at Primrose in Zanesville. Born on February 3, 1935, in Cambridge, Ohio, he spent his life dedicated to his family, his work, and the service of others. His enduring legacy of kindness, integrity, and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Robert's formative years were spent in the nurturing care of his parents, Henry Blandy Lilienthal and Mary E. (Lingenfelter) Lilienthal. His journey through life was shared with his beloved wife of sixty-three years, Jeanne Anne (Suitt) Lilienthal, who preceded him in death in 2016. He was also preceded in death by his brother, C. William Lilienthal. The love and lessons he imparted to his family will be his lasting contribution to a life well-lived.

He is survived by a loving family that includes his sons, Rick (Marianne) Lilienthal and Rob (Debra) Lilienthal, both of Cambridge, his daughters, Mary Pat Lilienthal of Caldwell, Judith Lilienthal of Kansas City, MO, and Cathy Lilienthal of Packwood, WA. Robert was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren, a doting great-grandfather to fifteen great-grandchildren, and a delighted great-great-grandfather to one great-great-grandchild. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Dr. David (& Teresa) W. Suitt of Cambridge, one niece, two nephews, and a multitude of good friends who will miss his warm presence and wise counsel.

A graduate of The Ohio State University, he earned a degree in Business Administration. His college years were marked by athletic prowess; as an all-Ohioan athlete in high school, he continued to excel on the football field, playing for the Buckeyes and contributing to the 1954 National Championship team.

Professionally, Robert was the respected President and Owner of Lilienthal Southeastern Inc. His leadership extended into various roles within the community, including serving as the past exulted ruler of the Cambridge Elks Club, the former President of the Cambridge Country Club, and a past member of the Cambridge City Schools Board of Education. He also lent his wisdom and expertise as a former member of the Board of Cambridge Savings Bank and Bank Ohio. His deep faith was reflected in his membership at the 9th Street Methodist Church.

Together with George Bliss, Robert co-founded the Cambridge Biddy League Football, demonstrating his commitment to youth and sports. This initiative was just one of the many ways he invested in the future of his beloved hometown. Robert's passion for life was evident in his hobbies and interests. An avid golfer, he found joy in the game and the camaraderie it brought. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and grandchildren, recognizing these moments as the most precious of all.

In celebration of Robert's life, his family and friends will carry forward the values he embodied and the love he shared. His story is one of triumphs and challenges, laughter and love, all woven into the fabric of a life that touched so many. Robert Harris Lilienthal lived fully, loved deeply, and left a legacy of enduring strength and compassion. As we say farewell, we are comforted by the memories and the profound impact he had on our lives. His spirit will forever be a guiding light for his family and the community he so faithfully served.  A memorial service with visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Ninth Street United Methodist Church from 11AM-1PM, with the service to immediately follow with Pastor Karen Rawlins officiating.
