Thomas Ray Atkinson, 91, of Barnesville, formerly of Cambridge, died Saturday and was reunited with his wife, Betty Jane, July 23, 2022, at the Walton Home in Barnesville.
He was born June 29, 1931, in Barnesville, son of the late Guy C. and Sarah (Marmie) Atkinson.
Tom was a retired funeral director, having last worked in Cambridge at the Scott Funeral Home.
He was a member of the Cambridge Elks # 448, the Guernsey Masonic Lodge #66 F & AM, the American Legion, Cambridge VFW Post 2901, and Kiwanis.
Tom was a United States Navy Veteran.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty Jane (Mahoney) Atkinson, whom he married on June 6, 1959, and who passed away on November 8, 2017. Five brothers; Dale, Ralph, Larry, Jack and Gene Atkinson.
He is survived by a brother, Guy J Atkinson of Canal Fulton; a sister, Carole Gallagher of Barnesville; a very special niece, Brenda Gallagher-Brown of Barnesville, and many other nieces, nephews, and good friends. Also surviving him are his special caregiver girls. Thomas always called them his girls and they enjoyed spoiling him.
Thomas was admired in the local funeral service industry and will be missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him and working with him.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 26, from 5-8pm at Thorn-Black Funeral Home in Cambridge. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at 1 PM, at Thorn Black Funeral Home. Pastor Karen Rawlins will be officiating.
Burial will follow at Northwood Cemetery in Cambridge, where military honors will be performed by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
