William D. “Bill” Padden, 66, of Cambridge, died Thursday June 2, 2022, at OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. He was born May 17, 1956, in Steubenville, Ohio to the late Thomas J. and Barbara Dyer Padden.
Bill graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central High School in 1974 and from West Liberty State College in 1978, where he was active in the Theta Xi fraternity. His career in education took him to all grade levels: Elementary, Jr. High and High School, with various coaching positions along the way and finishing up as Athletic Director at Cambridge High School from 1987 –1992.
On January 3, 1992, Bill received the gift of a liver transplant, allowing him to have 30 additional years of life. Forever grateful for that unknown donor, he made it his mission to honor that gift every day.
Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Monica A. Padden and brother, Thomas S. Padden.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carol and his two brothers, Daniel G. (Lynn) Padden of Cambridge, and James R. (Karen) Padden of Steubenville. Bill also leaves 11 nieces and nephews and 4 great-nieces and nephews, a multitude of cousins, and friends beyond number.
Family and friends will be welcomed Friday June 10, from 2-6 pm at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, 139 S. 9th St., Cambridge, OH. Also, on Saturday, June 11 at St. Benedict Catholic Church from 11 am – 12 pm prior to the Funeral Mass at 12:00 pm.
